Spotify stops support for Windows Phone app

The update that Spotify sent out for its Windows Phone app in February 2015 will be that app's final update. The music streamer has decided that it no longer is worth it to add the newest features for the small number of Windows Phone users. Yes, that hardy bunch will still have access to the app, but it will continue to fall behind the capabilities of the iOS and Android versions of Spotify.

As for a Windows 10 version of Spotify, the company says that it can't say if or when such a release will be out. But at the same time, it did say that if such an app was created users would receive a notification that the update was ready to be installed.

Spotify has 75 million users at last count, with 20 million paid subscribers and 55 million using the free, ad-supported tier of service.

"We can confirm Windows Phone 8.x is no longer supported. You can still use our Spotify application on the associated devices but it will no longer receive any further updates and download the application. We apologize for the inconvenience...regarding Windows 10, we can’t say at the moment if or when any specific release will be out, but as soon as there is something new, you will receive a notification on your device that an update is available and prompted to download it."-Spotify
