White Samsung Galaxy S5

When the Samsung Galaxy S5 launched in India, it was priced at 51,990 Rupees without a contract ($860 USD). But on Monday, the HTC One (M8) was released in the same market for a price of 49,990 Rupees ($827 USD). With HTC undercutting Samsung in the battle of flagship devices, the Korean manufacturer decided to fire back by slashing the price of its just released model.

Now, the white version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is priced under the HTC One (M8) in India. The model is wearing a price tag of 46,450 Rupees ($767 USD). With the HTC One (M8) launching today in the world's third largest smartphone market, Samsung figured that taking an ax to the price of the Galaxy S5 would be a good way to recapture the attention of Indian consumers in what is the world's third largest smartphone market.

The discounted white Samsung Galaxy S5 can now be ordered from Flipkart, and it is almost a certainty that the black model will also be discounted. That puts the pressure back on HTC. Will the Taiwan manufacturer cut its price and start a price war?
