Microsoft to send out update to fix 80188309

Microsoft has admitted that there is a problem that is preventing some Windows Phone 8 users from updating to the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. While the update does download on the handset, it won't open and cites error 80188309 as the reason. Some Windows Phone 8 owners are stating that they faced the same issue when the GDR3 update was first pushed out, and that the update will have to be fixed for certain models.

Besides admitting the issue on its support forums, Microsoft said that it would send out a fix. Unfortunately, the software giant did say that it wouldn't be rolling it out as fast as Windows Phone 8 users would want it to be. Microsoft said that it could not commit to a specific time for sending out an update to repair the issue.

A moderator in one of the support forums, promised to pass along the latest news on the issue next Thursday. While most of those complaining about the error message are sporting the Huawei Ascend W1, Microsoft admits that the error message appears on other models as well.

If you have run into the same problem while trying to run the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview, let us know by dropping a comment in the box below.

"The update itself is not going to be available today, or likely early next week. We will continue to work on getting you this update but it will not be as fast as you would like. I know a lot of you would like a better timeline on when it will be available, and at this time I cannot commit to a date."-Moderator on Microsoft support forum
