Huawei tipped us that its working on a US online shop, which will initially sell the Huawei Ascend Mate 2
4G. The launch date remains obscured, but the phablet is fully presented, and interested customers
can sign up for a newsletter. The Chinese vendor is touting the Mate 2's LTE Cat4 support (up to 150Mbps downlink), which should make streaming and downloading files a breeze in compatible networks.
In addition, the 3900mAh battery is supposed to give users 60 hours of standard usage, which is a rather stretchy metric by itself. But Huawei must be rather confident in the phone's economical power usage, as it offers Reverse Charging - a function to charge another device from it through a micro-USB to micro-USB cable.
The 6.1-inch Ascend Mate 2 was announced at this year's CES in Las Vegas. You can check out ourhands-on with the phablet here. Its price in China is a reasonable $445, and we assume that the Mate 2 will sell unlocked in the US, unless Huawei has found a carrier willing to subsidize it.
This doesn't seem very likely, as the company is entangled in a two-sided spying argument with the government, which has shrouded its stateside position in controversy. US companies are currently forbidden from using Huawei-made communications equipment, but at least the company isn't banned from selling smartphones.
