Although the new HTC 10 is clearly stealing the spotlight at the moment, HTC's new flagship smartphone isn't the only new product that HTC unveiled at its special event earlier today. To go along with the HTC 10, the company has also unveiled the HTC Boost+, an app that's marketed as the perfect way of optimizing and decluttering your Android device. Yep, you've read that right: HTC's new app is compatible with all Android devices running at least Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The HTC Boost+ app is essentially an enhanced memory cleaner app. Like most apps in this category, Boost+ will remove unnecessary data from the internal storage. Included here are cache files, temporary files, app installers, and even advertising trackers. Furthermore, HTC Boost+ also comes with a "smart boost" feature that frees up RAM memory in an attempt to, well, boost performance. 

Unfortunately, all signs point out that RAM cleaner apps don't really improve the overall performance of Android devices, meaning that we'll reserve further judgment on this feature until we get the chance to test out the app for ourselves.

So far, HTC Boost+ doesn't appear to be a very interesting app. However, going beyond the memory cleaning features, the app also boasts some intriguing privacy and app management features. For one, Boost+ can lock specific apps behind a passcode or a fingerprint, which can turn out to be incredibly useful if you want to keep your social media profiles hidden from prying eyes. 

Boost+ can notify you when it detects that you're not using certain apps. If you're the type of user that often installs apps and then forgets about them, then this HTC Boost+ feature is a way of managing storage space waste. 

Another notable feature is a dashboard that displays information on available storage space and your device's RAM consumption. 

HTC said that Boost+ will launch in the Google Play Store on April 14. As previously mentioned, the app will be compatible with all devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop or newer, not just HTC devices.

You can search up and down, high and low, but you will not find the HTC 10 for sale at AT&T. HTC's communication head Jeff Gordon sent out a tweet this morning that read, "We encourage AT&T customers to purchase our unlocked model at HTC.com, Full AT&T support!" Unless the HTC 10 becomes a huge hit, this is bound to be a bigger problem for HTC than AT&T.

When the HTC One was launched, Verizon did not offer the phone at first since it already had what it considered to be a high-end HTC phone with theHTC DROID DNA. Eventually, Verizon did start selling the HTC One.

We should point out that AT&T users are not shut out since they do have the option to purchase the device unlocked from HTC. The manufacturer is offering a 12-month installment plan through PayPal Credit with 0% interest. Well qualified buyers will have the opportunity to purchase the phone without interest as long as it is paid off in 12 months or less. At $699, that works out to $58.25 a month.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect to this news is how AT&T reached this decision. Was the carrier upset with the poor showing of the HTC One M9? Outside of confirming that it won't be carrying HTC's new flagship, the nation's second largest carrier has nothing to say about its decision.

After unboxing the Samsung Galaxy S7 underwater, and the LG G5 inside a speedy racing car, T-Mobile USA today unboxed the brand new HTC 10 in yet another unusual manner. The Uncarrier took the HTC 10 to Las Vegas, and, with the help of a helicopter, unboxed it at 10,000 feet (that's 3 km) up in the air. 

The unboxing itself - which you can watch below - doesn't reveal anything that we didn't already know about the HTC 10, though it's worth mentioning that the smartphone comes with a charger supporting Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. 

On paper, the HTC 10 looks very good, definitely being able to stand next to other flagship handsets of this year, like the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5. The highlight features of the new metal-made HTC smartphone include a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM, BoomSound, a 12 MP UltraPixel rear camera, and Android Marshmallow with Sense 8.0 UI. 

The HTC 10 is already available to pre-order from HTC's official US website. However, for now, only the unlocked version can be ordered, costing $699. T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint (but not AT&T) should start selling the handset in the coming weeks. Let us know if you're planning to buy it, okay?

March was another tough month for HTC as the struggling smartphone manufacturer reported revenue of $127.57 million for the 31 days. That was a whopping 79.3% decline year-over-year. On a sequential basis, the drop in revenue was 1.34% from February's number. During the first three months of the year, HTC's revenue added up to $457.2 million, a drop of 64.31% from the same time period last year.

HTC will soon be unveiling its new flagship phone, the HTC 10. Based on a series of teasers, HTC says that this handset will offer the best camera ever found on a smartphone, and feature "flawless high-fidelity" audio. HTC plans tounveil the phone on April 12th.

Meanwhile, the company's VR headset, the HTC Vive started shipping this week. HTC has high hopes for the device, which sold $12 million worth of product in the first ten minutes that pre-orders were taken. The Vive should have a positive impact on April's revenue, with the HTC 10 playing a major role on the revenue reported for May.

On the day when Huawei introduced arguably the most ambitious camera system to grace the back of a smartphone, HTC disseminated another video teaser for its upcoming HTC 10 flagship model, focusing on the rear-facing camera. The manufacturer has been sensitive to talk about the quality of the rear camera on its flagship phones ever since it put a 4MP Ultrapixel camera on the back of the HTC One (M7).

UPDATE: A look at the end of the teaser shows that the HTC 10 could very well feature an UltraPixel sensor. The rear camera will also include OIS and take Hi-Res 4K video. Check out the still image from the video at the bottom of this article.

The teaser says that the manufacturer "is obsessed with providing you the best ever smartphone for shooting photos and videos." That is setting the bar pretty high; while some HTC fans are getting excited, the company has set some pretty high bars in the past and was unable to reach them. The HTC One M9, for example, was a major failure in the U.S. leaving HTC's financials and stock price in a shambles. But now, HTC says that it knows "how important a high quality camera is to you."

Other teasers say that the HTC 10 will be the "smoothest and fastest Android phone," and that it is also "fine tuning the highest quality sound possible." The device is rumored to have front-facing stereo speakers. Other rumored specs include a 5.1-inch Super LCD 5 display carrying a 1440 x 2560 resolution. The Snapdragon 820 SoC is said to be under the hood, featuring a quad-core CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU. 4GB of RAM is expected to be inside along with 32GB of native storage. A 12.3MP camera will grace the rear of the phone while the front-facing shooter should weigh in at 5MP. Android 6.0.1 will be pre-installed.

HTC was hoping that the introduction of the Vive VR headset would help turn the company around. Flowing red ink from every orifice  in its corporate body following the flop that was the HTC One M9, the Vive era got off to a great start whenthe company grossed $12 million in the first 10 minutes of accepting pre-orders for the headset.

But a problem has developed. Processing issues with financial institutions have led to the accidental cancellation of Vive pre-orders. HTC is working with its customers and the banks and has already reinstated orders for a number of customers. The HTC Vive costs $799.99 and is scheduled to start shipping this coming Monday, April 4th.

If you received a notice stating that your Vive order was automatically cancelled, you should immediately call your bank or financial institution. And you might want to give HTC a call as well at (888) 216-4736. As we noted, HTC is expecting big things from the Vive. HTC co-founder and current CEO Cher Wang said back in January that "Smartphones are important, but to create a natural extension to other connected devices like wearables and virtual reality is more important."

"While fulfilling this week's orders for HTC Vive, a limited number of individuals were affected by auto cancellations due to processing issues with financial institutions. We're actively working to resolve this, and have already reinstated orders for some customers. We want to assure our customers that we'll work with them to process their payment so they can receive their Vive when they were expecting it. If you pre-ordered a Vive, we encourage you to contact your financial institution to notify them of upcoming charges."

Other companies like Samsung, Google offer various VR "hardware" and with companies like McDonald's and Coke turning their packaging into VR viewers, it certainly seems that corporate America is drinking the Kool Aid. And that dovetails with Ms. Wang's comments about the importance of Virtual Reality to HTC's financial reality.
