LG nailed it last summer, with the innovative G2 flagship, that had its physical buttons placed on the back for the first time. Now, with the upcoming G3 successor, the company will seemingly have the last word for the first half of 2014. The G3 is slated to appear in May orJune - after Samsung, Sony, and HTC's top-shelf offerings. It is supposed to bear at least three codenames internally - LG D-850 (allegedly heading to AT&T), D-851, and Verizon's VS985.

Not everyone can afford the latest hot-spec'd smartphones, so each carrier usually has a number of inexpensive devices to offer those who use pre-paid service. LG has just produced sequels for two of these models, both of which are now available from Verizon. Both the LG Zone 2 and LG Extravert 2 are limited to 3G connectivity, which means no LTE service on either of these handsets. That is typical for Verizon's pre-paid offering.

Korean manufacturer LG is heading toward a company record for smartphone sales during a second quarter. Based on data from Mirae Asset Securities, LG will sell 15 million smartphones during the April through June time period. The current LG record for smartphone sales during a second quarter is 12 million units. The securities firm says that LG will indeed hit its target of 5 million units sold during each month. That means that for the year, LG could end up ringing up more than 60 million units in sales.
